December 30th-God Gave Us You

Sleep--I find myself SO grateful for the break in reality—we call it God’s “pause button.”  The nights before we go to sleep and when we wake up seem to bring the hardest and heaviest moments.  This night I woke up during the middle of the night having this huge sense of urgency to be with my son.  I decide to grab a book and read to him—It’s about heaven.  I cry as I realize I wish I could go with him.  Most of these babies can’t hear or see, but I know this is one way to bond with Ben.  I decide to grab some more picture books. God Gave Us You, by Lisa Tawn Bergren is perfect.  One page makes me choke up and hits home.  Little Cub is asking his Mama where he came from and what makes him special….

“Umm, Mama? I was wondering….Did you ever want a different baby?  One like Samuel the seal or Fredrika the fox?

“Never,” Mama said.  “Never, ever, ever.  Your papa and I wouldn’t trade you for the world.”

“Why?” Little Cub asked.

“Why? Because God gave us you.”

HEAVEN'S VERY SPECIAL CHILD

A meeting was held quite far from Earth!

It's time again for another birth.

Said the Angels to the LORD above,

This Special Child will need much love.

His progress may be very slow,

Accomplishments he may not show.

And he'll require extra care

From the folks he meets down there.

He may not run or laugh or play,

His thoughts may seem quite far away,

In many ways he won't adapt,

And he'll be known as handicapped.

So let's be careful where he's sent,

We want his life to be content.

Please LORD, find the parents who

Will do a special job for you.

They will not realize right away

The leading role they're asked to play,

But with this child sent from above

Comes stronger faith and richer love.

And soon they'll know the privilege given

In caring for their gift from Heaven.

Their precious charge, so meek and mild,

Is HEAVEN'S VERY SPECIAL CHILD.
